Russia registers 39,400 new Covid-19 cases, 1,190 related deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 39,400 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,190 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Monday.

"Over the past day, 39,400 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 3,422 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.7%)," the headquarters said.

Following the all-time high of 41,335 coronavirus infections reported on November 6, daily incidence has been less than 40,000 in Russia for two consecutive days. There were 39,165 infections registered on Sunday.

The number of cases recorded daily has also been on the decline in Moscow, which has reported 4,982 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, but retains the highest morbidity levels. Following Moscow are the Moscow region with a new all-time high of 3,429 cases of Covid-19 and St. Petersburg, which reported 2,597 infections in the past 24 hours.

According to the headquarters, 1,190 patients have died from Covid-19 across Russia in the past 24 hours, with the most deaths recorded in Moscow (97), St. Petersburg (85), and the Moscow region (59).

Since the coronavirus epidemic began in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 8,834,495 cases of Covid-19, 248,004 deaths, and 7,587,560 recoveries, including 25,582 persons discharged from hospitals over the past day, 5,262 of them in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Monday that Russia has performed more than 213.4 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 453,000 over the past day. As many as 2,001,942 people remain under medical observation.
