Yandex to start delivering groceries using robot couriers in Dubai in 2022

MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Yandex is going to launch pilot grocery delivery from the Carrefour supermarket chain in Dubai using robot couriers in 2022, the Russian internet company said in a press release.

Delivery will become available in the United Arab Emirates in the framework of an agreement of intent signed between Yandex and Majid Al Futtaim, a holding company that owns a number of shopping malls and retail stores in the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia.

Customers will be able to make orders and track the robots' movements with their groceries using the local Carrefour app.

Yandex started testing its robot courier in late 2019. At the first stage, the robot worked at the Internet company's headquarters. It was later involved in delivering documents on the territory of Skolkovo. In late 2020, it stared delivering from restaurants in Moscow.

Apart from in Russia, robot couriers are now delivering orders in Ann Arbor in the United States. Yandex additionally plans to launch delivery robots in Israel and South Korea.
