Russia registers 40,443 new Covid-19 cases, new all-time high of 1,189 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 40,443 new cases of Covid-19 and a new all-time high of 1,189 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 40,443 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 3,452 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.5%)," the headquarters said.

Russia has seen a new all-time high of 1,189 deaths from Covid-19, compared to the 1,178 deaths reported on Tuesday. The coronavirus mortality rate began growing in Russia at the end of September, practically as soon as a new spike in coronavirus infections began. The most deaths have been reported from Moscow (95), St. Petersburg (86), and the Moscow region (53).

Moscow has also reported the largest number of new infections, 6,827, compared to 5,736 on Tuesday. There were 3,269 new cases of Covid-19 in St. Petersburg and 2,744 in the Moscow region.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 8,633,643 cases of Covid-19, including 242,060 deaths and 7,445,438 recoveries, among them 32,807 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 6,628 of them in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 210.6 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 512,000 over the past day. As many as 2,008,602 people remain under medical observation.
