Russia registers 36,446 new Covid-19 cases, all-time high of 1,106 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 36,446 new cases of Covid-19 and a new all-time high of 1,106 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 36,446 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,907 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.0%)," the headquarters said.

Russia has seen a new all-time high of 1,106 deaths from Covid-19, as compared to the previous record of 1,075 reported on October 23.

The most deaths were reported from Moscow (86), where the mortality rate had been growing over the past week on practically a daily basis, as well as from St. Petersburg (72) and the Krasnodar Territory (40). The mortality rate in Moscow and St. Petersburg correlates to the levels of late June, when both cities reported over 100 deaths per day on some occasions.

Meanwhile, the number of new cases of Covid-19 has decreased by 1,484 since Monday. Russia saw an all-time high of 37,930 coronavirus infections on October 25.

Fewer cases were registered in Moscow (6,074 vs 7,778 on Monday) and the Moscow region (2,930 vs 3,127). St. Petersburg reported 2,735 infections, compared to 2,693 on October 25. The three constituencies still have the most Covid-19 cases.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 8,316,019 cases of Covid-19, 232,775 deaths, and 7,213,584, including 26,973 patients discharged from hospitals over the past day, among them 3,924 in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 205.7 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 414,000 over the past day. As many as 1,890,069 people remain under medical observation.
