Russia sees all-time daily high of 36,339 Covid-19 cases, record high of 1,036 deaths in past day - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Russia has recorded another all-time high number of daily cases of Covid-19, 36,339, over the past 24 hours, along with 1,036 coronavirus-related fatalities, the highest daily number since the start of the pandemic, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 36,339 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 3,230 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.9%)," the headquarters said.

The past 24 hours have seen a surge in Covid-19 morbidity rates in Russia, with 2,266 more cases reported than the 34,073 cases recorded on Wednesday.

Daily cases are increasing in all regions of Russia, with the highest numbers recorded in Moscow, 7,897, which is the highest daily number since June 26 of this year, St. Petersburg (3,280), and the Moscow region (2,318), where there has been a slight decline compared to the region's figures from Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from Covid-19 has reached 1,036, or the largest daily number since the start of the pandemic. Russia has been reporting new all-time highs for Covid-19 mortality rates almost every day since the beginning of October.

The most deaths were reported in Moscow (73), St. Petersburg (68), and the Krasnodar Territory (41).

Since the onset of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 8,131,164 cases of Covid-19, 227,389 deaths, and 7,091,607 recoveries, including 25,895 patients discharged from hospitals over the past day, among them 4,272 in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 202.7 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 624,000 over the past day. As many as 1,769,264 people remain under medical observation.
