Russia sees all-time high of 31,299 new Covid-19 cases, record 986 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 14 (Interfax) - Russia has seen a new all-time of 31,299 new cases of Covid-19 and a record 986 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 31,299 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,767 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.8%)," the headquarters said.

Coronavirus morbidity levels began growing in Russia after September 20, and the growth intensified in October. According to chief public health official Anna Popova, growth has been reported from most Russian regions.

Moscow has registered 6,712 coronavirus infections over the past day, which is the largest number since July 9, while 2,345 infections were recorded in St. Petersburg and 1,911 in the Moscow region.

Russia has seen a new all-time high of 986 deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. The most deaths were recorded in Moscow (72), St. Petersburg (67), and the Sverdlovsk region (41).

Since the onset of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 7,892,980 cases of Covid-19, 220,315 deaths, and 6,937,756 recoveries, including 21,679 patients discharged from hospitals over the past day, among them 3,136 in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 198.7 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 593,000 over the past day. As many as 1,533,945 people remain under medical observation.
