Russia registers 28,717 new cases of Covid-19, new all-time high of 984 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 28,717 new cases of Covid-19 and a new all-time high of 984 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 28,717 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,493 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.7%)," the headquarters said.

There were 4,410 new cases in Moscow, 2,470 in St. Petersburg, and 1,898 in the Moscow region. According to Rospotrebnadzor head Anna Popova, coronavirus morbidity levels have been growing in 77 Russian constituent territories.

Russia saw a new all-time high of 984 deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. The previous all-time of 973 deaths was reported on Tuesday. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said last week that death rates were high among unvaccinated patients.

Most deaths were reported from Moscow (72), St. Petersburg (65), and the Sverdlovsk region (39).

Since the onset of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 7,861,681 cases of Covid-19, including 219,329 deaths and 6,916,086 recoveries, including 21,801 patients discharged from hospitals over the past day, among them 2,567 in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 198.1 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 458,000 over the past day. As many as 1,530,513 people remain under medical observation.
