Russia registers 28,190 new cases of Covid-19, new all-time high of 973 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 28,190 new cases of Covid-19, fewer than the day before, yet a new all-time high of 973 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 28,190 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,146 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.6%)," the headquarters said.

The number of infections reduced by 1,219 from 29,409 reported on Monday as the largest number since the year beginning.

There has been a decline in new infections in Moscow (4,699 vs. 5,002 on Monday), St. Petersburg (2,158 vs. 2,931), and the Moscow region (1,804 vs. 2,184).

Despite a decline in morbidity levels, Russia has seen a new all-time high of 973 deaths from Covid-19. The mortality curve started rising after September 20, and Russia has recorded a number of all-time highs since then.

Most patients died in Moscow (70), St. Petersburg (62), and the Sverdlovsk region (44) over the past day.

Meanwhile, 20,706 patients have been discharged from hospitals upon recovery in the past 24 hours, including 2,477 in Moscow.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 7,832,964 cases of Covid-19, including 218,345 deaths and 6,894,285 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 197.6 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 362,000 over the past day. As many as 1,497,780 people remain under medical observation.
