Russia registers 29,409 new cases of Covid-19, 957 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 29,409 new cases of Covid-19 and 957 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Monday.

"Over the past day, 29,409 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,608 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.9%)," the headquarters said.

Russia has seen over 29,000 coronavirus infections for the second time since October 9. There were 28,647 new cases on Sunday. The coronavirus morbidity levels started growing in Russia again in the second half of September, and the growth intensified in October.

Moscow has also seen a spike in infections: 5,002 new cases were reported over the past day, as against 4,610 on Sunday.

There is a similar situation in St. Petersburg, which reported 2,931 new infections in the past 24 hours, as against 2,822 on October 10, and the Moscow region - 2,184 vs. 2,026 cases the day before. On the whole, coronavirus morbidity levels have been growing in the majority of Russian regions.

In the past 24 hours, 957 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, most of them in Moscow (71), St. Petersburg (63), and the Sverdlovsk region (42).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 7,804,774 cases of Covid-19, including 217,372 deaths and 6,873,579 recoveries, including 15,460 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 2,284 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Monday that Russia has performed more than 197.2 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 484,000 over the past day. As many as 1,473,970 people remain under medical observation.
