Russia registers 27,246 new Covid-19 cases, new all-time high of 936 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 27,246 new cases of Covid-19 and a new all-time high of 936 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 27,246 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,346 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.6%)," the headquarters said.

Russia recorded a new all-time high number of deaths from Covid-19 on Friday, 936, as compared to 924 on Thursday and 929 on Wednesday.

The most deaths were reported from Moscow (71), St. Petersburg (61), and the Sverdlovsk region (46).

Daily coronavirus morbidity has been higher than 27,000 in Russia for two consecutive days, although the number of infections has slightly declined from the 27,550 reported on Thursday as the largest number since the beginning of this year.

According to the headquarters, Moscow saw 4,595 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, compared to 5,404 on October 7. There were 2,501 new cases in St. Petersburg and 1,490 in the Moscow region.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 7,717,356 cases of Covid-19, 214,485 deaths, and 6,819,796 recoveries, including 20,566 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 2,288 of them in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Friday that Russia has performed more than 195.6 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 586,000 over the past day. As many as 1,409,109 people remain under medical observation.
