Iran becomes full-fledged member of SCO

DUBAI. Sept 17 (Interfax) - The participants in a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), held in the Tajik capital Dushanbe on Friday, admitted Iran to the SCO as a full-fledged member, Iranian journalist Abas Aslani said.

"Iran's full membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization was approved by the leaders in Dushanbe summit," Aslani said on Twitter .

According to the journalist, recently appointed Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that Iran's membership in the SCO "has an important impact" on Iran's international and regional contacts.

"This strategic membership has an important impact on the process of Iran's comprehensive cooperation in line with its neighborhood and Asia-centered policy," Aslani quoted Abdollahian as saying.
