Russia registers 19,594 new Covid-19 cases, largest number since Aug 25, 794 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 19,594 new cases of Covid-19, the largest number since August 25, in addition to 794 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 19,594 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,611 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.2%)," the headquarters said.

The number of new coronavirus infections topped 19,000 in Russia for the first time this month. There were 18,841 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday. The daily morbidity seen on Thursday correlates to the levels of August 25, when, however, the epidemic process was stabilizing in Russia after the July spike caused by the Delta variant. Since the beginning of this month, daily morbidity has stood at around 18,000.

Moscow reported the largest number of new cases, 2,479, which is the highest level since August 13. There were 1,653 new cases of Covid-19 in St. Petersburg and 768 in the Moscow region.

In the past 24 hours, 794 patients have died from Covid-19 across Russia, with the most deaths recorded in Moscow (45), St. Petersburg (39), and the Sverdlovsk region (36).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 7,214,520 cases of Covid-19, 195,835 deaths, and 6,452,398 recoveries, including 17,326 recoveries across Russia in the past day, among them 1,469 in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 185.1 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 462,000 over the past day. As many as 1,122,531 people remain under medical observation.
