Russia registers 18,985 new Covid-19 cases, 798 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Sept 2 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 18,985 new cases of Covid-19 and 798 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 18,985 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,466 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.7%)," the headquarters said.

Over the past day, 798 patients have died from Covid-19 across Russia, most of them in Moscow (51), as well as St. Petersburg (37) and the Sverdlovsk region (34). Also, 18,669 patients were discharged from hospitals across Russia upon recovery from Covid-19.

According to the headquarters, Moscow has seen 1,864 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,686 recoveries in the past 24 hours.

Following Moscow are St. Petersburg (1,330 new infections) and the Moscow region (614).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 6,956,318 cases of Covid-19, including 184,812 deaths and 6,218,048 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 179.5 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 448,000 over the past day. As many as 1,207,922 people remain under medical observation.
