David Knight appointed as World Bank chief economist for Russia from Sept 1

MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax) - David Knight has been appointed as chief economist of the World Bank for Russia as of September 1, 2021.

The World Bank said in a statement that before his appointment to this position, Knight had occupied the post of senior economist for Turkey, and, earlier, for Timor-Leste. Prior to this, he was based at the World Bank's office in Sydney, where he was responsible for work on economic topics in a number of countries in the East Asia and Pacific region.

According to the statement, Knight managed research projects on varied topics, including macroeconomics, poverty reduction, and financial and trade management. He is the author of publications in various spheres, such as public financial management, aid effectiveness, and issues linked to balance of payments and global value chains.

Before joining the World Bank in 2012, Knight worked as an economist and advisor on economic issues in the British government, holding posts in Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, where he was responsible for matters of international taxation, property taxation, environmental taxes, and modeling using computable general equilibrium models.

Knight has a degree from the London School of Economics and a Master's from the University of Melbourne. He is a citizen of the United Kingdom and Australia.
