Russia registers 18,368 new cases of Covid-19, 790 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 18,368 new cases of Covid-19 and 790 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 18,368 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,260 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (6.9%)," the headquarters said.

Once again, most Covid-19 cases (1,312) were reported from St. Petersburg. The same happened on August 18, when St. Petersburg reported 1,636 infections.

Moscow ranks second with 1,229 new cases of Covid-19 seen over the past day, alongside 1,936 recoveries.

Over the past day, 790 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, as against 795 on Tuesday. Most deaths are still registered in Moscow (47), as well as in St. Petersburg (34) and the Sverdlovsk region (33).

In the past 24 hours, 18,325 patients were discharged from hospitals across Russia upon their recovery from Covid-19.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 6,937,333 cases of Covid-19, including 184,014 deaths and 6,199,379 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 179.1 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 352,000 over the past day. As many as 1,224,607 people remain under medical observation.
