CSTO not to deploy troops to Afghanistan - secretary general

MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has no plans to deploy troops to Afghanistan, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said.

"These are completely groundless fears. The CSTO is a strictly defensive military-political organization. It may deploy collective defensive forces only within the limits of the CSTO zone of responsibility," Zas said in a statement quoted by the Mir television company and the CSTO website.
