Russia registers 19,630 new cases of Covid-19, all-time high of 820 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ
MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 19,630 new cases of Covid-19 and a new all-time high of 820 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.
"Over the past day, 19,630 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,446 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.4%)," the headquarters said.
Russia saw a new all-time high of 820 deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. Daily mortality reached 819 in Russia on August 14 and started to gradually decline. The minimal death toll since July, 762, was reported on August 22, following by an increase in mortality levels. Russia reported 809 deaths from Covid-19 on Wednesday.
Daily morbidity has also been on decline in the reporting period: there were about 22,100 infections on August 14 and the rate reduced to around 18,800 by August 24. There were around 19,500 new infections in the country on Wednesday.
Most deaths are still registered in Moscow (54), followed by St. Petersburg (38) and the Krasnodar Territory (34).
As many as 19,661 patients recovered from Covid-19 over the past day.
According to the headquarters, Moscow reported 1,712 new cases of Covid-19 and 2,463 recoveries on Thursday.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 6,824,540 cases of Covid-19, including 179,243 deaths and 6,092,818 recoveries.
The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 176.7 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 567,000 over the past day. As many as 1,226,311 people remain under medical observation.
