Three people were on board Il-112V plane that crashed outside Moscow - source
MOSCOW. Aug 17 (Interfax) - A test version of the Ilyushin Il-112V light military transport plane, which crashed during a test flight outside of Moscow on Tuesday, had three people on board, an informed source told Interfax.
"The plane departed the Kubinka airfield and crashed. There were three people on board," the source said.
The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) had reported earlier that a test version of the Il-112V crashed near Kubinka in the Moscow region.
"The Il-112V light military transport plane crashed in a belt of trees while approaching the Kubinka airfield for landing during a training flight. Details of the accident are being clarified," the UAC said.
Interfax has reported before that a prototype of the Il-112V, which was undergoing flight tests, arrived from the Voronezh aircraft plant to the Moscow region to take part in the Army 2021 military forum.
The Il-112V is the first military-transport plane developed in Russia from scratch after the Soviet Union's breakup. It is supposed to replace the outdated and ageing Antonov An-24s and An-26s. The Il-112V is designed to transport and airdrop up to five tonnes of light weapons, military hardware, cargo, or troops.
