Court of Appeal dismisses appeals against ban on FBK, Navalny Headquarters as extremist
MOSCOW. Aug 4 (Interfax) - The First General Jurisdiction Court of Appeal has upheld the Moscow City Court ruling, which banned and shut down as extremist the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), the Citizens' Rights Protection Foundation (FZPG), and the Navalny Headquarters movement, which were founded by opposition activist Alexei Navalny and were designated foreign agents in Russia.
The Court of Appeal handed down this ruling on Wednesday, an Interfax correspondent reported.
The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeals filed by representatives of the abovementioned organizations and the movement against the Moscow City Court ruling of June 9, and, thus, it came into legal force.
"The Moscow City Court ruling of June 9, 2021 is left unchanged, the appeals are dismissed," the Court of Appeal said in its ruling.
The Moscow City Court ruling granted a lawsuit filed by the Moscow Prosecutor's Office to shut down FBK, FZPG and ban the activities of the Navalny Headquarters. The court also ordered a forfeiture of the organizations' assets after settling debts with creditors.
Representatives of these organizations and the movement insisted on the appeal against the unlawfulness of the first-instance court ruling. The first-instance court, in particular, "could not indicate with what evidence, apart from unsigned information certificates and unilateral acts of fixing the pages of FBK, FZPG and the Navalny Headquarters on the Internet, it concluded that they have carried out extremist activities," they said.
