Russia reports 23,270 new Covid-19 cases, 799 related deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. July 29 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 23,270 new cases of Covid-19 and 799 related deaths over the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 23,270 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,136 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (9.2%)," the headquarters said.

Another 799 people earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have died in Russia in the past day. Meanwhile, the daily number of coronavirus-related deaths has been declining in Moscow since the beginning of the week, but has been growing in the regions. Thus, Moscow has seen 79 such deaths and St. Petersburg 64 in the past 24 hours. As many as 20,834 people earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have recovered.

Moscow reported 3,356 new Covid-19 cases and 5,060 recoveries on Thursday, the headquarters said.

For the second time this week, St. Petersburg has registered a larger number of new Covid-19 cases per day than the Moscow region - 1,925 against 1,325 in the past 24 hours.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 6,218,502 cases of Covid-19, including 156,977 deaths and 5,568,363 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 164.2 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 535,000 over the past day. As many as 1,225,080 people remain under medical observation.
