Russia records 24,471 new Covid-19 cases, 796 related deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 24,471 new cases of Covid-19 and 796 related deaths over the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 24,471 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,417 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (9.9%)," the headquarters said.

Following a slight decline in daily morbidity rates earlier in the week, Russia has again recorded more than 24,000 new cases of the disease in the past 24 hours. There have been 796 coronavirus-related fatalities in the past day. The most coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours were reported in Moscow (102), St. Petersburg (95), and the Irkutsk region (38). As many as 22,660 people earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have recovered.

Moscow reported 4,287 new Covid-19 cases and 7,587 recoveries on Thursday, the headquarters said.

For the first time since the daily number of coronavirus cases started growing at the beginning of summer, St. Petersburg has reported more new infections in the past 24 hours than the Moscow region - 1,943 against 1,835.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 6,054,711 cases of Covid-19, including 151,501 deaths and 5,427,457 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 160.8 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 528,000 over the past day. As many as 1,242,971 people remain under medical observation.
