Russia records 23,704 new Covid-19 cases, 783 related deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 23,704 new cases of Covid-19 and 783 deaths over the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 23,704 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,466 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (10.4%)," the headquarters said.

Daily morbidity rates in Russia have not exceeded 24,000 for the second consecutive day, whereas the number of coronavirus-related deaths remains quite high, reaching 783 on Wednesday and 784 on Tuesday. The most coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours were reported in Moscow (104), St. Petersburg (103), and the Irkutsk region (42). As many as 22,584 people earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have recovered.

Moscow reported 3,254 new Covid-19 cases and 8,006 recoveries on Wednesday, the headquarters said.

The Moscow region has recorded 2,161 new cases of Covid-19 and St. Petersburg has registered 1,939 in the past day.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 6,030,240 cases of Covid-19, including 150,705 deaths and 5,404,797 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 160.3 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 435,000 over the past day. As many as 1,232,779 people remain under medical observation.
