Russia records 23,770 new Covid-19 cases, 784 related deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 23,770 new cases of Covid-19, along with 784 deaths, over the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 23,770 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,511 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (10.6%)," the headquarters said.

Russia reported 24,633 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday.

There have been 784 coronavirus-related fatalities in the past 24 hours. The highest number of such deaths has been reported in Moscow (101), St. Petersburg (98) and the Irkutsk region (36). As many as 22,218 people earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have recovered.

Moscow reported 3,188 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest daily figure since June 7, and 7,968 recoveries on Tuesday, the headquarters said.

The Moscow region has recorded 2,478 new cases of Covid-19 and St. Petersburg 1,934 in the past day.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 6,006,536 cases of Covid-19, including 149,922 deaths and 5,382,213 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 159.9 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 340,000 over the past day. As many as 1,213,638 people remain under medical observation.
