Project Media, designated as undesirable NGO in Russia, being liquidated - media team

MOSCOW. July 16 (Interfax) - The U.S. non-governmental organization Project Media, which has been designated as undesirable in Russia by the Prosecutor General's Office, is being liquidated and no longer bears a relation to journalists, the team of the Project media outlet said in a statement.

"We, the team of the Project media outlet, have to report the following. The company Project Media, Inc., registered in the United States of America and designated as 'an undesirable' organization by the Russian authorities yesterday, is at the stage of liquidation and no longer has financial relations with any of the journalists working in Russia," the outlet said.

It said that the journalistic collective was continuing its work but did not specify the work format.

The Project team promised that "the number of investigations will not be reduced."

On July 15, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office declared the activity of the U.S. NGO Project Media undesirable in Russia.

"A decision has been made to recognize the undesirability of the foreign NGO Project Media, Inc. (USA) operating in the Russian Federation," the Prosecutor General's Office told Interfax.

The work of the organization "poses a threat to the foundations of the constitutional system and security of the Russian Federation," it said.

Project Media, Inc. is the 41st foreign NGO designated undesirable in Russia. There was not a single media outlet on the list until this decision was made.

In addition, the Justice Ministry added founder Roman Badanin and four employees of the media outlet - Olga Churakova, Pyotr Manyakhin, Maria Zheleznova and Yulia Lukyanova - to the foreign-agent media register. The Justice Ministry designated the foreign-agent media status to Open Media chief editor Yulia Yarosh, her deputy Maxim Glikin and Yelizaveta Mayetnaya, correspondent of Radio Liberty (listed by the Justice Ministry as a foreign-agent media outlet).
