EU suggests discussing with Moscow mutual recognition of vaccination certificates - EU ambassador to Russia
MOSCOW. July 8 (Interfax) - The European Union has suggested discussing with Russia the possibility of mutual recognition of coronavirus vaccination certificates, Markus Ederer, Ambassador of the EU to the Russian Federation, said.
It is necessary to work out some decisions, in particular about the equivalence of certificates of the EU and Russia, Ederer told reporters. He said that the European Union has digital Covid passes, which have been introduced to travel freely between EU countries. The regulations under which they were introduced envisage that certificates issued in third countries can be recognized as equivalent.
In this regard, the EU delegation has written to the Russian Health Ministry, suggesting discussing whether Russia would like to participate in the recognition of equivalence, he said.
European digital certificates contain information on vaccination, the diseases the person has had, and test results, the ambassador said.
Accordingly, it would be useful to establish equivalence with Russian certificates, Ederer said. For this purpose, certificates of the Eurasian Economic Union could be useful, he said. That is why the EU delegation has written a letter to the Russian Health Ministry suggesting such a discussion. In the event of success, the parties could mitigate the problems that Russian travelers have, Ederer said.
