Protasevich, Sapega placed under house arrest, cooperating with investigators - Belarusian Investigative Committee

MINSK. June 25 (Interfax) - The Belarusian Investigative Committee has confirmed the house arrest of opposition journalist Roman Protasevich and Russian citizen Sofia Sapega and said they have asked for a plea deal.

"The defendants are making consistent confessions and have requested a plea deal consistent with the law," the Investigative Committee said on Telegram on Friday.

Protasevich and Sapega "have pledged to assist the investigative authorities in the investigation of crimes and in exposing their accomplices and to do everything they can to compensate for the damage done by these crimes," it said.

"Given these circumstances and having processed the defendants' motion for a different restrictive measure, investigators decided it was possible to place them under house arrest," the Investigative Committee said.
