Russia records 16,715 new Covid-19 cases, 546 related deaths, highest daily number since Feb, in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. June 22 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 16,715 new cases of Covid-19 and 546 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 16,715 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,455 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (14.7%)," the headquarters said.

As many as 546 people earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have died in the past 24 hours, the highest daily number of fatalities due to Covid-19 since February. Daily mortality rates were lower throughout the spring, but began growing around mid-June. There have been 11,117 recoveries in the past day.

Moscow reported 6,555 new Covid-19 cases, along with 86 deaths and 3,458 recoveries, on Tuesday, the headquarters said.

Moscow is followed by the Moscow region with 1,871 new Covid-19 cases and St. Petersburg with 1,065 new infections reported in the past day.

The total number of cases of Covid-19 recorded in Russia since March 2, 2020, when the first Covid-19 case was registered in the country, stands at 5,350,919, including 130,347 deaths and 4,889,450 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 146 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 274,000 over the past day. As many as 631,703 people remain under medical observation.
