Russia sees over 12,500 new Covid-19 cases for first time since Feb 22 - HQ

MOSCOW. June 11 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 12,505 new cases of Covid-19, which is the highest number recorded since the end of February, and 396 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 12,505 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 84 regions of Russia, including 2,218 asymptomatic cases identified proactively," the headquarters said.

The daily coronavirus morbidity levels began rising in Russia at the beginning of this week: there were 9,429 new cases on Monday, 9,977 on Tuesday, 10,407 on Wednesday, and 11,699 on Thursday. In the past 24 hours, 10,188 patients have been discharged from hospitals upon recovery, and 396 patients have died from Covid-19 across Russia.

According to the headquarters, Moscow reported the highest number of daily infections since January 14, that is, 5,853, as well as 60 deaths and 3,061 recoveries, on Friday.

Over the past day, the smallest number of infections was reported by the Magadan region (five) and the Nenets Autonomous District (two). There were zero infections reported in the Chukotka Autonomous District.

Since the coronavirus epidemic began in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 5,180,454 cases of Covid-19, including 125,674 deaths and 4,782,183 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Friday that Russia has performed more than 141.9 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 400,000 over the past day. As many as 540,697 people remain under medical observation.
