Russia registers 8,937 new Covid-19 cases, 389 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 8,937 new cases of Covid-19 and 389 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said on Friday.

"Over the past day, 8,937 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,457 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (16.3%)," the headquarters said.

Over 9,200 coronavirus infections were reported on Thursday. Epidemiologists say, however, that daily morbidity fluctuations are normal during the epidemiological stabilization stage that Russia is currently going through.

In the past 24 hours, 9,350 patients have been discharged from hospitals upon recovery, and 389 patients have died from Covid-19 across Russia.

The daily coronavirus morbidity level remains the highest in Moscow, which reported 2,954 new cases of Covid-19, 58 deaths, and 2,593 recoveries on Friday.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 4,983,845 cases of Covid-19, including 117,739 deaths and 4,601,120 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Friday that Russia has performed more than 135 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 358,000 over the past day. As many as 510,012 people remain under medical observation.
