Oil leaks from infield pipeline at Gazprom Neft field in Yamal-Nenets region's Purovsky district

MOSCOW. May 14 (Interfax) - Oil has leaked from an infield oil pipeline running between two well pads at a field in the Purovsky district of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District, a source at the Purovsky district administration told Interfax.

A 5-mm hole was discovered in the pipeline, which has a diameter of 219 mm and wall thickness of 7 mm.

It is thought at this stage that 3,000 cubic meters of oil have leaked from the pipeline but it is hard to gauge the exact volume due to melting snow.

Sources in the emergency services and Purovsky administration told Interfax that the accident took place at the Karamovskoye field, which is developed by JSC Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz.

The pipeline stretches from exploration well pad No. 155 to a booster compressor station. The pipeline is thought to have depressurized close to well pad No. 23 and the section has been closed off with valves.

The sources said there were no water areas within a radius of 1 km and the territory is not part of a water protection zone. "The incident has not affected users," one source said.
