Russia urges Israel, Palestine to show self-control, settle problems on basis of UNSC resolutions - Peskov

MOSCOW. May 12 (Interfax) - Russia finds the situation surrounding Israel and Palestine very disturbing and urges both sides to demonstrate self-control and to resolve the arising problems on the basis of UN Security Council resolutions, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"We are urging both sides to show self-control; we are deeply worried about civilian casualties growing as a result of indiscriminate attacks. We still think that both sides should find the strength to settle the known problem primarily on the basis of the relevant resolutions of the Security Council," Peskov told journalists on Wednesday.

He noted that the opinion voiced by Chechnya head Ramzan Kadyrov on the issue cannot be viewed as the official stance of Russia.

Russia's foreign policy is formulated by the head of state consistent with the Constitution and is carried out by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Peskov said.

"This stance was relayed yesterday in the relevant statement of the Foreign Ministry," he said.

Earlier this week, Israel retaliated against attacks on its cities with strikes on Gaza. According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the Israeli strikes on Gaza have killed 35 and injured over 200. The Palestinian Red Cross has reported 700 people injured. According to the latest information, Israel has lost six citizens. The Israeli Defense Army reported on Wednesday that more than 1,000 missiles and projectiles had been fired upon Israel from Gaza since the beginning of the week.
