Putin confirms Russia's readiness to deliver Sputnik V vaccine to Turkey in phone call with Erdogan

MOSCOW. May 12 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has discussed the status and prospects for Russian-Turkish cooperation in containing the novel coronavirus in a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed the readiness of the Russian side to ensure delivery of the Sputnik V vaccine to Turkey. A Turkish delegation will visit Moscow in the coming days to discuss the issue," the Kremlin press service said in a statement.

In addition, "there was a detailed exchange of opinions on the escalated tensions in East Jerusalem. Profound concern about the ongoing clashes and growing casualties was expressed. Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged the sides to de-escalate tensions and to resolve any problems which arise peacefully," the statement said.

"The principled stance of Russia and Turkey in favor of the two-state resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the internationally acknowledged international legal norms and the special role of the quartet of international mediators (Russia, the European Union, the United Nations, and the United States) in providing assistance in the negotiating process was noted," it said.

The Turkish president extended his deepest condolences over the Kazan school tragedy and asked Putin to relay his profound sympathy to the families of the dead and wishes for quick recoveries to the injured.

The Russian president sent his best wishes to Erdogan and the people of Turkey in connection with the nearing completion of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

Regular bilateral dialogue will be continued at various levels, the statement said.
