Russia registers 8,217 new Covid-19 cases, 355 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. May 12 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 8,217 new cases of Covid-19 and 355 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 8,217 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 83 regions of Russia, including 1,168 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (14.2%)," the headquarters said.

In the past 24 hours, 8,614 patients have been discharged from hospitals upon recovery from Covid-19 and 355 have died.

According to the headquarters, Moscow has seen 2,718 new cases of Covid-19, 59 deaths, and 2,394 recoveries over the past day.

Coronavirus morbidity remains the highest in Moscow. It is the lowest in Tuva (five cases), the Republic of Altai (three), and the Jewish Autonomous District (one). Not a single new case has been reported by the Nenets and Chukotka autonomous districts over the past day.

As of this moment, Russia has registered a total of 4,905,059 cases of Covid-19, including 114,331 deaths and 4,518,529 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 132.1 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 210,000 over the past day. As many as 499,256 people remain under medical observation.
