Another 6 motions for multimillion fines on Twitter, 10 in regard to Google, Facebook lodged with court
MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - Sixteen motions for an administrative penalty on Twitter, Google, and Facebook over the failure to remove prohibited content have been lodged with a magistrates' court in Moscow.
"Judicial District No. 422 in Moscow's Tagansky district has received six administrative motions in Twitter's regard," a court representative told Interfax on Wednesday.
The company has been charged under Part 2, Article 13.41 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses (an Internet resource owner's failure to remove information or a webpage whenever this duty is envisaged by Russian legislation). This kind of administrative offense is punishable with a fine of 800,000 to 4 million rubles.
Similar motions have been filed in regard to Google and Facebook.
"There are five administrative motions regarding Google and Facebook each. The court has yet to schedule hearings for all companies," the representative said.
If found guilty, Twitter might be facing fines totaling 24 million rubles, while Google and Facebook might be compelled to pay up to 20 million rubles each.
