Russia registers 8,995 new cases of Covid-19, 397 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 8,995 cases of Covid-19 and 397 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 8,995 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 84 regions of Russia, including 1,172 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (13.0%)," the headquarters said.

In the past 24 hours, 9,109 patients were discharged from hospitals upon recovery, and 397 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia.

According to the headquarters, Moscow saw 2,476 new cases of Covid-19, 57 deaths and 1,901 recoveries in the past 24 hours.

Daily coronavirus morbidity has been higher than 2,400 in Moscow for two consecutive days, and it was also the highest in Russia. The smallest growth was reported by Tuva (two cases) and the Jewish Autonomous District and the Chukotka Autonomous District (one case in each) in the past 24 hours. There were zero infections in the Nenets Autonomous District.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 4,684,148 cases of Covid-19, including 104,795 deaths and 4,310,557 recoveries, including 9,662 in the past 24 hours.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Friday that Russia had performed more than 125.1 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 377,000 over the past day. As many as 509,450 people remain under medical observation.
