Government of National Unity head calls on Russian companies that earlier worked in Libya, including gas sector, to return

MOSCOW. April 15 (Interfax) - The Libyan Government of National Unity has called on Russian companies, particularly those working in the gas sector, to resume operations in the country, Prime Minister of Libya's Government of National Unity Abdul Hamid Dbeibah said.

"Through you, we're reaching out to all the Russian companies that used to work in our country, urging them to come back. In particular, [our appeal is to] those who worked in the gas sphere," Dbeibah said during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.

"Some companies signed big contracts, particularly for the construction of a rail line and for work in other spheres," he said.

"And we would like to resume and intensify work on the contracts signed with Russian economic operators before 2011," Dbeibah said.

The current Libyan government is reaching out to Russia, "seeking help in everything," he said.

"Russia is a great nation, which has a huge amount of experience in all domains, including the sphere of developing services, healthcare, oil extraction, and all other infrastructure areas," Dbeibah said.

Lavrov noted, in turn, that the Libyan premier is holding consultations in Moscow at a crucial point for Libya.

"After many years of devastating civil war, Libyans have to take a resolute step in favor of comprehensive settlement. The international community's goal is to contribute to that in every way possible," Lavrov said.

On Thursday, Dbeibah met in Moscow with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev. Dbeibah was also on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday. In the phone conversation, the two discussed in detail the problems of Libyan settlement, the Kremlin said.
