Russia, S. Korea sign military cooperation agreement

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin has visited South Korea to discuss regional security issues, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"Consistent with the earlier agreements, the sides signed an agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and the government of the Republic of Korea on cooperation in the field of defense at the end of their strategic dialogue," the ministry said.

The negotiations with South Korean National Defense Vice-Minister Park Jae-min addressed "regional security issues with emphasis on the situation in Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula, as well as the status and prospects of bilateral interaction in the military field," it said.

In addition, Fomin met with Vice Chairman of the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Won In-choul, the ministry said.
