Russia records 8,457 new Covid-19 cases, 427 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. March 23 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 8,457 new coronavirus infection cases and 427 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 8,457 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 945 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (11.2%)," the headquarters said.

Russia has also reported 427 related deaths in the past day.

Moscow is still recording the largest numbers of new Covid-19 cases daily, registering 1,042 new cases of the disease, 51 deaths, and 1,379 recoveries over the past day, the headquarters said.

Moscow is followed by St. Petersburg (812 new cases in the past day) and the Moscow region (513).

As of this date, since March 2020, Russia has registered a total of 4,474,610 cases of Covid-19, including 95,818 deaths and 4,088,045 recoveries, with 10,860 of those recoveries recorded in the past day.

Russian health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 117.9 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 183,000 over the past day. As many as 482,496 people remain under medical observation.
