Indian govt approves purchase of 21 MiG-29 fighter jets from Russia, modernization of another 59 aircraft - FSMTC

BANGALORE. Feb 3 (Interfax) - The Indian government has approved the purchase of 21 MiG-29 fighter jets from Russia and the modernization of another 59 aircraft of the kind, deputy head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Vladimir Drozhzhov told Interfax.

"An offer to deliver 21 MiG-29 planes and to modernize another 59 was presented to the Indian side. The government of the Republic of India has decided to purchase the aforementioned planes. We're awaiting a decision from the Indian Air Force Staff regarding the relevant tender procedures," Drozhzhov said.

An offer to deliver six Kamov Ka-31 helicopters and technological sets for the production of 12 additional Sukhoi Su-30MKI planes has also been presented to Indian partners, he said.

"We are awaiting a decision from the Indian side regarding contract negotiations," Drozhzhov said.
