Russia's Deputy PM Novak, Hungary's Foreign Minister discuss possibility of cooperating in fuel and energy sector
MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Friday discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fuel and energy sector, the press service of the Russian government said.
Novak stressed that bilateral cooperation of the two countries in the energy sector is developing positively, with work being conducted in all the main areas of gas, oil, and the nuclear industry, as well as in the area of solar power generation.
"Our main task is to maintain the already achieved level of cooperation and to increase the results. Russia remains among the largest suppliers of natural gas to Hungary and traditionally fulfills its contractual obligations to our foreign partners," the deputy prime minister stressed.
Additionally, supplies of oil and oil products as well as coal, which occupy an important place in trade between the two countries, remain stable, Novak said.
Szijjarto previously reported that he had held talks with Novak on gas purchases during his visit to Moscow. Hungary's foreign minister noted that an understanding was reached with Novak on this issue, and a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller is planned.
"In terms of gas, Deputy Prime Minister Novak agreed overall with my reasoned suggestions, and my task now is to convince Mr. Miller," Szijjarto said during negotiations with Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
