Russia registers 24,715 new Covid-19 cases, 555 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 24,715 new cases of Covid-19 and 555 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 24,715 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 3,258 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (13.2%)," the headquarters said.

The number of recoveries has been exceeding the number of new cases by more than 3,000 for two consecutive days. According to the operative headquarters, 27,636 patients have been discharged from hospitals and 555 have died in the past 24 hours.

In Moscow, the headquarters reported an all-time high of 81 deaths, as well as 5,534 new cases and 6,602 recoveries in the past 24 hours.

Following the Russian capital, the number of new infections has been the highest in St. Petersburg with 3,094 new cases and the Moscow region with 1,361.

As of this date, Russia has registered a total of 3,520,531 cases of Covid-19 (+0.7%), including 64,495 deaths and 2,909,680 recoveries.

Russian health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Friday that Russia has performed more than 95.6 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 531,000 over the past day. As many as 611,417 people remain under medical observation.
