Russia registers 24,763 new Covid-19 cases, 570 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Russia registered 24,763 new Covid-19 cases and 570 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 24,763 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 3,426 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (13.8%)," the headquarters said.

Russia reported 22,850 Covid-19 cases the day before.

The number of recoveries has been exceeding the number of new Covid-19 cases in Russia since the beginning of this week. According to the headquarters, 27,956 patients were discharged upon recovery in the past 24 hours, which is over 3,000 more than the number of hospitalized patients.

Moscow has also seen an increase in recoveries; 7,049 patients recovered and 5,893 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours.

The other regions with the highest number of new Covid-19 cases are St. Petersburg with 3,041 new cases and the Moscow region with 1,263.

A total of 570 coronavirus-related deaths were confirmed over the past day, most of them in St. Petersburg (83). Sixty-eight patients died of coronavirus in Moscow.

As of this date, Russia has registered a total of 3,495,816 cases of Covid-19 (+0.7%), including 63,940 deaths and 2,882,044 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Thursday that Russia had performed more than 95 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 465,000 over the past day. As many as 611,704 people remain under medical observation.
