Russia registers 22,934 new Covid-19 cases, 531 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 22,934 new cases of Covid-19 and 531 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 22,934 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,827 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (12.3%)," the headquarters said.

The number of deaths has grown by nearly 100 to 531 since Monday.

The largest rates of growth in coronavirus morbidity are continuing to be seen in Moscow. According to the headquarters, Moscow has recorded 5,001 new Covid-19 cases, 72 deaths, and 6,778 recoveries over the past day.

Following Moscow is St. Petersburg with 2,731 new cases and the Moscow region with 1,083.

Russia has registered a total of 3,448,203 cases of Covid-19 (+0.7%), including 62,804 deaths and 2,825,430 recoveries, among them 24,755 patients who have been discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours.

Russian health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 94.2 million coronavirus tests to date, including 326,000 over the past day. As many as 618,114 people remain under medical observation.
