Roscosmos congratulates China on Chang'e 5 Moon landing
MOSCOW. Dec 1 (Interfax) - Roscosmos Deputy General Director for International Cooperation Sergei Savelyev has congratulated colleagues in the China National Space Administration (CNSA) on the completion of yet another stage in its Lunar research program, the Russian state corporation said on Tuesday.
"For the PRC [People's Republic of China] space program, this event is, doubtless, historical: for the first time in the history of their country's space research, CNSA specialists put a reusable station on the Moon, whose main task to bring lunar soil back to Earth," Savelyev said.
"On behalf of the Roscosmos state corporation, I would like to congratulate our Chinese colleagues from the China National Space Administration on the successful completion of another stage in the Lunar research program: putting the Chang'e 5 unmanned mission's landing module on the Moon," he said.
Studying the Moon is a priority of space research in all countries, and Russia and China regularly discuss further cooperation in this area, Savelyev said.
The Chang'e 5 lander, which is to collect soil samples from the Moon for the first time in 44 years and deliver them to earth, on Tuesday made a successful soft landing on the Moon, the CNSA announced earlier.
