Choice of White House press secretary shouldn't affect U.S.-Russian relations, foreign policy shaped by president - Peskov

MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - Moscow hopes that the United States authorities will have enough political will in the future to normalize relations with Russia, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

Asked how Jen Psaki's possible appointment as White House press secretary could affect Russian-U.S. relations if Joe Biden's victory in the U.S. presidential election is formalized, Peskov told journalists, "This is the head of state's choice, once the official results of the elections are finalized and all legal disputes are over."

"This is a domestic issue; it's an issue of Mr. Biden himself. This has nothing to do with the Kremlin," he said.

"From the standpoint of bilateral relations, the press secretary doesn't formulate a foreign policy. It's the head of state who formulates it. At least, in our country. A lot depends on the U.S. president. As per tradition, we expect that Washington will have enough political will in time to normalize bilateral relations with Russia. Unfortunately, this hasn't happened so far," he said.
