Russia sees 15,971 new Covid-19 cases, 290 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 15,971 new coronavirus cases, 290 associated deaths, and a record high number of recoveries, 11,428, over the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters on Thursday.

"Over the past 24 hours, 15,971 cases of the novel coronavirus infection Covid-19 were confirmed in 85 regions, including 4,116 (25.8%) identified proactively, without any clinical symptoms manifested," the headquarters said.

Russia also saw a record high number of recoveries in one day - 11,428, it said.

The highest daily number of new Covid-19 cases was registered in Moscow, which saw 4,413 new infections in the past 24 hours.

According to the headquarters, 2,519 patients were discharged from hospitals and another 66 died in Moscow over the past 24 hours.

Russia's Covid-19 total case count since the onset of the pandemic stands at 1,463,306 (+1.1%) in 85 regions. The overall related death toll is at 25,242. A total of 1,107,988 people have recovered, the headquarters said.

Russia has conducted more than 55.6 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 512,000 in the past 24 hours, the Russian Federal Service for Health and Consumer Rights (Rospotrebnadzor) said. A total of 321,958 people remain under medical observation in the country.
