BRICS energy ministers approve roadmap for cooperation to 2025

MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - The energy ministers of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) approved a roadmap for energy cooperation to 2025 at their fifth meeting, a video conference chaired by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak.

The roadmap is the first comprehensive document that sets out agreed plans for the development of the energy dialog between the five countries, Russia's Energy Ministry said.

The ministers also issued a communique confirming their intention to strengthen their strategic partnership in the energy sector and the area of energy security, and noting the important role of all types of energy, including fossil fuels and nuclear power.

The ministers affirmed that energy transition should correspond to national conditions and each country should determine the optimal policy without being compelled to adopt models that do not fit BRICS countries, the Russian ministry said.
