Ukrainian authorities to keep tabs on Ukrainian users of VK social network

KYIV. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) intends to order law enforcement agencies to keep tabs on all Ukrainian citizens who use the Russian social network vk.com, which has been banned in Ukraine.

"I'd like to draw your attention to people who are using this outlawed resource. And it should be their responsibility: why they're doing this and what for. The point is that, thanks to the system that is now starting to function, we'll be aware of all such users, and we'll keep an eye on all of them," NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov said during an online conference on Friday.

Danilov also warned this social network's users against spreading Russian content.

"If they continue disseminating Russian content in Ukrainian territory, they will have certain problems directly with our National Police and our security agencies," he said.

In accordance with Ukrainian legislation, the vk.com resource should not operate in Ukraine, but these restrictions are not being complied with, Danilov said. At the same time, the NSDC plans to resolve this problem with the help of its international partners shortly.

Ukrainian Deputy Interior Minister Oleksiy Honcharov agreed with Danilov's opinion, noting that users of resources banned in Ukraine ought to understand that they are violating the law and will be held accountable.
