State Duma reports to Prosecutor General's Office, Justice Ministry on foreign-agent NGOs illegally participating in Sept 13 elections
MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax) - Some Russian foreign-agent non-for-profit organizations illegally participated in the elections that ended on September 13, head of the State Duma commission on foreign interference Vasily Piskaryov said.
"We've sent information about the illegal participation of Russian foreign-agent NGOs in the election campaign which ended this week to the Russian Prosecutor General's Office and to the Russian Ministry of Justice," Piskaryov told reporters on Wednesday.
Ahead of the recent elections, "informal groups and associations" backed financially by organizations recognized as undesirable in Russia and foreign organizations based in Germany, France, and Poland conducted a series of online seminars and educational courses with the participation of American and Lithuanian political strategists, he said. The political technologists particularly explained at the courses how to organize "provocations when observing elections," Piskaryov said.
Hacker attacks targeting the website of the Russian Central Election Commission were organized from abroad on a round-the-clock basis and disinformation was promoted across the social media during the elections, he added.
