Russia declares Austrian diplomat persona non grata in response to expulsion of embassy employee in Vienna - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Austrian Ambassador to Russia Johannes Eigner was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday to be informed of the ministry's resolute protest at the expulsion of a Russian diplomat, as well as reciprocal measures by Russia, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
"On August 24, the Foreign Ministry of Russia summoned Austrian Ambassador to Moscow Johannes Eigner. The ambassador was informed of our resolute protest in relation to Austria's unfounded decision to recall the accreditation of a Russian diplomat and demand [that he] leave the Republic of Austria," the statement said.
"Guided by the principle of reciprocity, as a countermeasure, a diplomat from the Embassy of the Republic of Austria to the Russian Federation has been declared persona non grata," it said.
